What is it?
Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) or Overstitch is a new type of minimally invasive weight loss surgery. Your stomach structure will be changed by placing the sutures. This restricts the amount of food you can eat because you feel fuller sooner. This procedure is qualified for those with a body mass index of 28 or more.
How is ESG/Overstitch surgery performed?
1. The endoscope is inserted into your throat and down to your stomach (don’t worry you will be asleep during the procedure).
2. The surgeon will place approximately 5-8 sutures in your stomach. The sutures then change the structure of your stomach which will leave your stomach as a tube shape. The Overstitch procedure reduces the size of your stomach.
Incision
ESG/Overstitch is a non-surgical weight loss surgery so there is no incision at all.
How much weight will I lose after the ESG/Overstitch?
Combining lifestyle modification, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty typically results in a reduction of your excess weight by 30-60% in a period of 12-24 months.
